Carter G. Woodson Essay Contest

The Carter G. Woodson essay contest is held annually in February.  It provides elementary and high school students an opportunity to research and write on a history topic.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Speaker’s Program

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Speaker’s Program is held annually on the third Sunday in January.  The program ties in Dr. King’s goals with local issues and projects.

The Afro-American Historical Association of the Niagara Frontier, Inc. presents the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Speaker’s Program featuring keynote speaker Dr. Yohuru Williams, Founding Director of the Center of Racial Initiative.

Dr. Monroe Fordham Speaker’s Series

The Series is held annually in the Fall and Spring.  The series aims to raise awareness of scholarly research on African Americans.

Family History Dinner

The Family History Dinner is held annually on the first Thursday in May.  It features William Wells Brown awardees and local family historians, who present their research experiences and outcomes.
